History of Amalgam
Amalgam Model makers was created in 1985, a partnership of four with diverse talents amalgamated into a whole greater than the parts. Our aim was to offer a new level of quality models to leading architects and designers in the UK using innovative technologies and build techniques. We set out to empathise with the design philosophies of the up and coming young design practices of the day with the aim of creating models that delivered the essence of each design in a powerful and condensed form. In particular we worked closely with a number of superb young designers at Norman Foster’s office during this period, who would in due course move on to create their own practices in the UK and Germany. Many models of landmark architectural masterpieces were created in this early period and our aesthetic understanding and ability to interpret designs were honed to a fine edge.
Our desire to produce superb models for the finest designers in every field led us to approach F1 teams and in 1995 we created our first model for Jordan Grand Prix and steadily expanded that side of the studio’s work with Williams and Ferrari so that by 2000 we produced around 250 F1 models at 1/8th scale alongside other special projects for these teams. Once again we set out to build trust and understanding with the design and marketing teams with the clear aim of producing superior models. These strong relationships have endured and multiplied so that we now supply models to most of the F1 teams and the majority of prestige and luxury car manufacturers in the world.
In particular our relationship with Ferrari has flourished and we now make personalised models of every car Ferrari currently manufactures as well as producing display models for the company and its sponsors and partners. In 2008 we are producing the Ferrari F1 car at both 1/8th and 1/5th scale as well as full size steering wheel replicas.
