Company Timeline
1985 - Amalgam Modelmakers partnership is created . Four modelmakers with a wide range of strengths and skills, hence the name Amalgam. Start off in a small mews workshop originally stables for horse drawn delivery vans at the rear of a bakery.
1986 - We do our first work for Norman Foster and Partners (now Sir Norman Foster and Partners) a relationship that has thrived and continues to the present day with our sister company Amalgam Modelmaking Ltd.
1987 - We start working with British Aerospace making full size models of satellites and launch systems.
1988 - We start working with Richard Horden designer of the ‘Skihaus’ and the ‘Queen’s Stand’ at Epsom Racecourse. We develop furniture prototypes with him along with the Skihaus prototype.
1989 - We start working with Ingenhoven Architekten of Dusseldorf designers of the RWE tower in Essen incorporating ground breaking green architecture. Ingenhoven Architekten is now an internationally known and highly regarded practice www.ingenhovenarchitekten.de
1990 - We start working with GMP (von Gerken, Marg und Partner) www.gmp-architekten.de designers of the Leipzig Neue Messe.
1991 We start working with Dyson vacuum cleaners supplying prototype components, another relationship that endures to this day with our sister company.
1993 - We start working with the original minimalist architect John Pawson building Japanese soaking tubs from Cedar of Lebanon www.johnpawson.com
1995 - Amalgam Modelmakers moves to bigger premises at the Old Sorting Office, Eastfield Road, Cotham, Bristol.
1995 - We approach Jordan Grand Prix and are commissioned to make a model of the Jordan 195
1996 - We approach Williams F1 Engineering and are commissioned to make three ½ scale models of the Williams FW18
1998 - We approach Ferrari and agree to create models of the F300 1998 F1 car a relationship that grows ever closer over the years.
2000 - We make the first significant sales off the F1-2000 Ferrari F1 car, 200 models in 4 editions of 50 of significant races.
2001 - We agree a deal with Toyota F1 to supply models of the TF102. An enduring relationship supplying models and replica steering wheels to the team each year since then.
2004 - We create a separate company Amalgam Fine Model Cars Ltd. to focus on creating superb car and yacht models.
2005 - We start supplying models to Honda F1 team.
2005 - We start work on the Bentley Speed 8.
2005 - We start supplying Princess Yachts with large scale display models for exhibitions and distributor displays.
2006 - We supply 30 models to the new BMW Sauber Team, another regular yearly supply relationship.
2006 - We supply 1/8th and ¼ scale models to Red Bull Racing in their first year in F1.
2006 - We start work on our first Aston Martin, the DB9
2007 - We now have the full range of Ferrari road cars available personalised to customers specification.
2007 - We create the Audi R8 road car at 1/8th
2007 - Christmas. We supply 64 of the F2007 models as gifts for friends and key suppliers of Ferrari, to be presented by Jean Todt.
2008 - We start work on the 1/5th scale F2008 as well as the usual 1/8th scale. Models are available to Ferrari by late June.
2008 - Our first order from Bugatti.
2008 - We start working with Lamborghini.
